(A letter by an unborn through Wain)
Dear Mom,
Tell me about your world.
Is it a good place outside your womb?
Should I wish to be born
Or welcome your body as my tomb?
Is life always stressful?
Only filled with suffering and pain?
Could my birth bring us joy?
Or is it better if I am slain?
Do you believe in God?
Does he comfort the unborn who die?
Is heaven a real place?
Or is it just a comforting lie?
How do you treat the weak?
Do you protect the ones you can see?
Are their lives sacred
Or disposable just like me?
Is life worth living?
Is there more good than bad?
Should I be happy that you may kill me
Or am I justified in feeling sad?
What’s the point of being born?
Does it matter if I’m good or brave?
Why hope to leave the womb
If all achievements end in the grave?
Sorry for all my questions
About what it means to exist
I want to understand life
So there’s one more on my list:
Whether you choose to keep me
Or decide that I should die
Could you please give me the courtesy
Of telling me why?
