Please Don’t Let Me Live

Please Don’t Let Me Live
(A letter from the unborn through Wain)

Dear Mom,

Is it true that life is stressful?
That it’s filled with suffering and pain?
What’s the point of being born?
Is there anything I will gain?

Is it true that nature tries to kill?
With hurricanes, earthquakes and germs?
That life is a war for survival
And that there are no surrender terms?

Is it true that the globe is warming?
That melting ice cause oceans to rise?
That the same sun that gives life
Also sends deadly rays from the skies?

Is it true that happiness is slippery?
That I will yearn for it each day?
That the more I try to grasp it
The faster it will slip away?

Is it true that people are unreliable?
That they give both love and hate?
That we promise marriage forever
But divorce is a common fate?

Is it true that my body may attack me?
That cancer is the king of the hill?
That the things that make you grow
Are the same things that try to kill?

Is it true that the earth is dying?
That forests are losing their trees?
That lakes are going dry
And fish choke on trash in the seas?

Is it true that there is a God?
That he commands everyone to live well?
That if I have the wrong faith
He will send me to burn in hell?

Oh mom, I know it’s your body, your choice
But death is a gift you can give
Your world sounds scary to me
Please don’t let me live.

Thanks,

Your Unborn Child
